December 25. Christmas in the Panama Canal.

Christmas day was especially exciting! We spent the day going through the Panama Canal - from the Pacific Ocean, all the way across the isthmus of Panama to the Atlantic Ocean. Panama was pretty hot, rainy, and cool, all at the same time. We drank a lot of champagne all day!! We started going through the canal around 6 am. Christmas night we had a nice dinner and professional entertainment. That was nice too. Perfect.
Most cruisers were up by 6 am to begin our passage through the Canal. You can see the tugs and pilot boats coming to help us through the Canal.

We were up and being blown around by 6 am! Loved it.

We could see Panama City over the forest as the sun rose.

Entering the Miraflores Locks.

We are in the first lock, watching the water fill in to raise us 28 feet.

We just went through 2 locks to rise up to the Miraflores Lake. We will keep going through the canal to the next set up locks to keep going up.

The locomotives (or mules) that guide ships through the canals, keeping them from bashing into the walls.

Entering the GatĂșn Locks.

The Century Bridge.

We can see the digging of the new canal that will be operating in 2016. The new canal will allow the huge ships to cross through the canal.

We had a lovely Christmas Dinner and a wonderful, professional Christmas show after dinner.
